Paycheck calculator FAQ
Common questions about take-home pay
What is a paycheck calculator?
A paycheck calculator starts with gross wages, estimates payroll deductions, and shows an approximate net or take-home amount for a pay period.
Does NetPayKit calculate state and local income tax?
No. The 2026 paycheck and salary estimates are federal-only. State income tax, city or county tax, disability programs, paid-leave premiums, and employer-specific deductions are not included.
Which 2026 federal payroll rules are included?
The tax calculators use 2026 federal withholding assumptions and employee FICA rates, including 6.2% Social Security up to the $184,500 wage base and 1.45% Medicare, with Additional Medicare withholding where applicable.
Why can my actual paycheck be different?
Payroll systems can account for state and local taxes, benefit elections, pre-tax deductions, garnishments, bonuses, tips, prior wages, and detailed Form W-4 entries that a general estimator may not capture.
